The Austrey Women’s
Institute is a thriving, energetic and major organization within the village.
We are part of Warwickshire Federation of Women’s Institutes, who in turn are
part of the National Federation in London.
We are a very lively and friendly bunch and welcome new members at any time.
Our monthly meetings are held in the Village Hall on the second Thursday each
month, 7.30pm till approximately 10pm with lots of interesting speakers,
demonstrations and slide shows.

Annually, in November, we
dress the Village Hall ready for Christmas and in December run a Christmas
Workshop, which includes a two-course hot meal served with a glass of wine,
coffee and biscuits; Group Carol Service, Christmas Party and Federation
Carol Service held in Polesworth Abbey. From February to March
rehearsals start in earnest for our Annual Pantomime – this year “Dinner Ladies”. The
Pantomime is performed on 3 consecutive nights with a cold buffet supper served
on 2 nights. All members are involved inn these productions whether it be Front
of House, Buffet Supper, or Performing.
Fundraising
The WI make regular
donations to Rainbow’s Children’s Hospice in Loughborough.
In the past year velvet curtains have been donated to the Village Hall and
purchased a quantity of upholstered chairs for Village Hall users.
In 2007 we held a ‘Puddings Night’ to raise funds for the newly formed Village
Hall Steering Group.
Themed parties are a regular occurrence for senior citizens of the village
including “A Rumble in the Jungle”, Afternoon Tea at the Ritz” and “Afternoon
Tea at Raffles”.
We also donate to an organisation called “Associated Country Women of the World”
who work overseas in poorer countries to improve the lives of countrywomen.
Three Bursaries are available for any of our members who wish to attend the WI
Adult Learning Centre called Denman College.
We serve teas and coffees at village’s functions and are involved in ‘Open
Gardens’ weekend in July when many of our members open their gardens to the
public.
This is just a short summary of the activities of Austrey WI. If you like the
sound of us, please come along to one of our meetings you are assured of a very
warm welcome.
