The Austrey Golf Society has just completed its thirteenth season. Originally set up as a friendly gathering of like-minded golfers, the society quickly became well established with membership drawn from the village and surrounding areas.

The society was originally founded in the village pub, the Bird in Hand, where our impressive trophy cabinet is a feature in the lounge.  We have about 30 members on the books and typically get a turnout of around 18-20 at each event.  Many society members are also members of local clubs, but not all, and we welcome newcomers and guests of any standard, the emphasis being on good company and comradeship rather than high quality golf!

We tend to visit courses that are within an hour and a half's drive from the village, travelling far and wide looking for new and interesting venues, as well as revisting some established favourites.

In 2008 we played 9 events, at the following courses:

The Warwickshire (Leek Wootton)                Horsley Lodge (Derby)
Willesley Park (Ashby)                                 Kedleston Park (Derby)
                    Wrekin (Telford)                                         Collingtree Park (Northampton)
                    Coventry (Finham)                                        Enville (Stourbridge)
                    Erewash Valley (Stanton By Dale).

The season always concludes with a formal Presentation Dinner, which will once again be held at Drayton Park Golf Club in January.
