| A
Neighbourhood watch system has been in existence in Austrey for almost
20 years but a meeting was called last October 2008 to try to stimulate
some more interest and hopefully gain some new members and update our
records. The means of communication is now from a data base set up by the North Warwickshire Neighbourhood Watch secretary enabling people who have access to e-mail to receive messages, or by telephone, on an automated basis. These messages are in co-operation with the Police and are designed to keep members of the public informed of any potential problems that may occur in our area, and ask for any information which will possibly ensure a safer environment for us all. Most areas of the village have a representative near to them but some areas are a little 'thin' so if anyone living in St Nicholas Close, Glebe Rise, Orchard Close, Kirkland Close, Norton Hill, or Butts Close would consider becoming a member - no charge - just contact either Beryl Grix on 01827 830363 or David Key on 01827 830678. If you have any information that you think will be useful to the Police you can contact anonymously with information about crime. For more information visit: www.crimestoppers-uk.org or www.mostwanted.org.uk and remember.......
If a member of public has any information that could be helpful to the police that is not of an emergency, please y telephone 02476 483622/23. Could all Neighbourhood Watch members be sure to update their details for the database and if possible ask for messaging to be sent via email- it would help to reduce the £16,000 telephone bill!! Could villagers also consider how safely they are parking their vehicles, are they restricting vision of other drivers, or preventing pedestrians/disabled negotiating the pavements. |
Forth coming Area meetings for 2010 are scheduled as follows:
Starting at 7.30pm all
welcome:
21st January and 15th July at Tithe Barn, Polesworth,
11th March and 16th September at Atherstone Council House,
20th May and 25th November at
Grimstock Hotel, Coleshill.
A new notice board specifically
for Neighbourhood Watch news has been put up outside the village shop thanks to
the Area Forum and Neighbourhood Watch funding.
Our local PCSO Julie Arbuckle is looking to set up with other Neighbourhood Watch members, a road show. It will hopefully be taking place in the Spring and will be specially contacting isolated and possibly vulnerable villagers to reassure them of help and support that is available to them if they so require. Watch the new notice board at the local shop for more details.
