In November last year a group of us came together (at the Bird in Hand) with a view to starting an archery club. Over the ensuing months and with the assistance of people from NWBC and Meriden Archery Club, we have reached the stage where, several of us have completed our training. Training was received at Meriden and consisted of six two hour lessons given on a Wednesday evening over a period of several weeks (holidays etc. drew it out a bit). The cost was £60, using equipment brought by our instructors. (This basic training has to be satisfactorily completed for insurance reasons.)
We have been applying for funding from various Borough Council and County Council, community support funds and are about to receive one of the awards. The money will be used to buy essential equipment which, once in place will allow us to finally start practising our sport, at Austrey playing field. The Group are anxious to attract new members, so if you are interested in joining ring Brian Grix, 01827 830363 or e-mail bbgrix@btinternet.com. There will be a Group meeting in Austrey Village Hall on the 7th October at 7-30 pm; please feel free to come along and meet the group.
